I didn’t realize this when I was young, but Stephen Spielberg was actually one of the executive producers, and Joe Dante, the director of the film, was the same guy who directed the classic Horror/Comedy starring Tom Hanks, ‘The Burbs’, and the ‘Twilight Zone’ movie. ‘The Burbs’ film actually came out a few years after gremlins, but that’s beside the point… Joe Dante, rocks!

Anyways… Gremlins is not unlike its rival creature films, with the exception that there hasn’t yet been a ‘Gremlins in Space’ movie… (god, that sounds horrible). But one thing that stands out is the cute and fluffy protagonist, Gizmo.

Gizmo was my favorite part of the film as a kid, just as I know he was everyones favorite as a kid. I didn’t know anyone who could resist the urge of owning a Mogwai, even if they were a bit temperamental.

Aside from Gizmo, there was the laughs… ‘Gremlins’ didn’t have gore, it was just fucking funny! I know some may argue and say that Gremlins wasn’t a horror movie because it was cute and funny, but it was definitely a creature movie, which in my opinion is a sub-category of horror. Even ‘Critters’ and ‘Ghoulies’ had their own little gags. And what do they mean not scary? If you’ve seen the movie then you know that Ms. Deagle is probably the scariest most bitter old ladies to be featured in a movie. I had nightmares that she would come to my house and kill my pets while I was sleeping.

Corey Feldman also makes a co-star appearance in the film, so you know that boosts the awesomeness of the film by quite a bit, because if this film was good enough for Donatello, then it’s good enough for me.

I feel like watching this movie right now! It’s hilarious, it’s cute, and it’s just plain kick-ass!

This film had one of the most terrifying and memorable movie monsters ever… the Alien. H.R. Giger, a very well known, and controversial, German artist designed the alien, the eggs, and the alien habitat, giving them a very real and very frightening appearance.

There’s been a recent rise in the series popularity, mainly due to the new films that were recently released, ‘Alien Vs. Predator’, and ‘Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem’. The problem with these films is that they are about as terrifying as Harry Potter and the Bubble-Gum Princess (not an actual title)…

But anyways, if you want to see a real scary movie, sit down and watch the original 1979 release, ‘Alien’.

This movie is definitely in my top ten list of horror movies. And since it’s an older movie, I’m sure most of you have seen it… and if not… go do it… now!

The movie stars Kurt Russel, who is probably most famous for his work in Escape from L.A. and New York (personally I like him best in Big Trouble in Little China).

So Kurt and a team of scientists are in the antarctic, when they discover the remains of an other worldly being which is presumed to be dead. Shortly after bringing it back to their base of operations, the thing takes over the bodies of one of the scientists. Now, I don’t want to spoil anything for those of you who didn’t see the movie, so I’ll just say that the ‘fuck-with-your-mind’ factor is huge in this movie. You spend the movie wondering who is, and who isn’t one of the things symbiotic life forms, which creates a very intense feeling of tension and suspense. Even the musical score for the film is worth mentioning, as it has some of the most eerie 80′s synthesizers I’ve ever heard. And oh yeah… there is gore out the wazoo!

Hello there folks, This is my review of Silent Hill, the 2006 release from Sony Pictures.

This film is based off of a popular video game franchise by the same name. While the movie does stick close to most of the game elements, there are also some areas that the director took ‘liberties’ or used ‘creative decision’. Meaning he just found a way to fuck up the characters that most people have come to know and love.But aside from straying from the original content, the movie itself is actually very decent.It has its fair share of suspense, gore, and make-up. That’s right… make-up. It’s been quite a while since a horror movie relied so heavily on special effects make-up rather than CG monsters, which automatically makes me give this film quite a boost in rating (I’m not the biggest fan of CG). In fact there’s only one scene, in the very end, that is over the top computer generated graphics.I’m not going to tell to much about the background of the film since it’s a fairly new release, and because I don’t want to spoil throw spoilers in my review.
